This is an actual anatomical MRI (T1-weighted MP2RAGE, 0.75 mm voxels) of your professor's head, segmented by FreeSurfer. Click or drag in any plane to move the crosshair. The other two planes follow, and the panel on the left names whatever structure sits under the crosshair. Scroll (or use ← →) over a view to step through slices. Pinch (or Ctrl+scroll) to zoom about your cursor: the view follows the crosshair as you work, Shift+drag pans freely, and double-click zooms in and back out. Re-center views resets everything.
Conventions: by default the display is neurological (the subject's left is on your left, as if standing behind the patient). The Radiological toggle mirrors left/right (as if facing the patient), the convention used in clinical imaging. Watch the L/R letters.
Four label systems, four zoom levels: Lobes shows the big picture: the four lobes plus cingulate, insula, and grouped deep structures (basal ganglia, ventricular system). Desikan–Killiany names 34 gyral regions per hemisphere. Destrieux divides the cortex into 74 finer regions and, uniquely, labels the sulci as structures in their own right. Functional component names areas the way the networks literature does (FEF, TPJ, dACC, mPFC…), derived by intersecting the Yeo 7-network map with this brain's own parcellation. The quiz draws its targets from whichever system is active: lobes for the first day, Destrieux sulci for the brave.
Filtering: "Filter labels…" opens a panel where you can show any subset of the current atlas: e.g. just the hippocampi, or only the ventricles. The crosshair readout always names what's under it, filtered or not (except during the quiz, when it hides to keep things fair).
Quiz, GeoGuessr rules: ten structures, 100 points each. Park the crosshair where you think the structure is and press Submit guess. Your score falls off with the straight-line distance from your guess to the nearest edge of the structure. Anywhere inside counts as a direct hit, so grazing a big structure scores well even far from its middle. The structure lights up and the views glide over to its best slices (the longer the ride, the further you were) while a yellow pin stays at your guess. Scroll and inspect as long as you like, then press Next trial. Scores post to the shared class leaderboard, kept separately per label system; when offline they stay on your device.
Atlas honesty: the colored labels are FreeSurfer's automated segmentation. They're excellent, but borders are statistical estimates. Real anatomy doesn't come with outlines.
